Dia de los Muertos is a stark departure from the popular holiday of Halloween. Here, there is no need to scare strangers, collect sweets, or tell spooky stories. Those are the classic trappings of Halloween. The Day of the Dead is instead dedicated to honoring and remembering our deceased loved ones. It is a deeply rooted holiday with origins in the ancient traditions of the Maya and Aztecs.
